WoW: Forever Launch Guide: Raids, Realms, and What You Need to Buy

KUKJIN LEE·October 30, 2026

This article covers the Korean service and announcements; times are KST (UTC+9) unless stated otherwise. WoW: Forever launches at 8 a.m. KST on November 5, 2026. An existing WoW subscription or active game time provides base-game access; the Skyborne race and optional extras are included in separate upgrade packs. Before starting, consider more than the launch date and price: what will you do in familiar Azeroth, with whom, and for how long?

The most interesting change is reducing the burden of taking on challenges together, rather than the graphics alone. More zones and equipment will not keep people playing if they must constantly rebuild their team, fear every small mistake, or struggle to return after a break. Forever’s raid and realm design attempts to address those problems.

How Forever differs from Classic, and what beta showed

WoW: Forever is a separate experience alongside modern WoW and Classic. It uses the familiar level-1-to-60 framework in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, but aims to build new stories and systems on original-era Azeroth rather than simply repeat an old version.

The announced content includes more than 1,000 new quests and nine new five-player dungeons. Areas such as Mount Hyjal, the Riverlands, and the Isle of Zephras offer new places to explore, while combinations including Dwarf Shaman and Forsaken Paladin broaden race/class choices. Knowing the old place names does not mean knowing every route and reward.

The beta did not reveal the full experience. It capped players at level 30 and included four of the nine new dungeons. Raids were absent, and the developers explained that some secrets and discoveries were deliberately disabled even in the early zones.

Unreleased content is not proof of quality, however. It leaves room for discoveries but also means the later game has not undergone broad public testing. At launch, quest flow, rewards, and responses to bugs matter as much as the number of hidden encounters. Reasons for optimism and questions requiring evidence both remain.

10- and 20-player raids make sustained recruitment easier

The initial raid lineup was announced as the 10-player Barrow Deeps, 20-player Hyjal Summit, and 40-player Onyxia’s Lair. The Korean announcement lists December 10 for the first raid opening. Raiding therefore does not begin on launch day: players have time to reach level 60 and prepare.

More significant is the intention to keep providing 10- and 20-player raids in later updates. Changing raid size affects more than strategy: it can force teams to split, recruit, and reorganize roles and schedules. Expecting to stay with the same group makes preparing for the next challenge easier.

For example, if a team of 10 people gathers together consistently, having a series of challenges for 10 people is an advantage in itself. If you want content with 20 people, there is room to collaborate with other teams. Of course, just because there are 10 people doesn't mean it's always easy to operate. When one person is missing, the empty space feels big, and the problem of matching the necessary roles remains. Still, there is a wider range of choices than a structure that requires gathering a large number of people from the beginning to participate in major challenges.

A 40-player Onyxia’s Lair does not contradict that direction. Many players enjoy the spectacle of a large group fighting a giant enemy. Different raid sizes can support both a stable smaller team and the atmosphere of a large battle, rather than forcing every preference into one format.

Recoverable mistakes matter more than easy raids

The developers want raids where you can comfortably bring friends, while retaining preparation, teamwork, and meaningful class abilities. Choosing a kill order and using Disarm or crowd control should still involve judgment. The aim is not to remove mechanics and simply hand out equipment.

What is particularly noteworthy is the burden of individual mistakes immediately leading to failure of the entire raid. Even if a person who failed to avoid a dangerous attack falls down, if there is room for the rest to continue the fight, playing to resolve the situation becomes more important than spending time blaming the person who made a mistake. This means that the way you demonstrate your skills can also change. Not only the ability to not make mistakes, but also the judgment to fill in the gaps of colleagues becomes valuable.

This is not a guarantee that one person’s mistake can never wipe the raid. Difficulty still depends on encounter design, tuning, and group experience. The hope is for room to learn and retry, rather than the elimination of failure. A community can grow more easily when bringing a first-time player feels manageable.

A reimagined Molten Core was also mentioned, rather than a simple repeat of the original. Specific changes were not disclosed. That does not confirm how every raid from Blackwing Lair to Naxxramas will be handled. Separate the possibility of revisiting familiar places from what has actually been announced.

Consumables and enchants set preparation expectations

Preparing various consumables will help you conquer the boss, but we do not aim to defeat the boss only if you have all possible strengthening effects. The development team also distinguished between the fact that you can become stronger by accumulating various consumables and the conditions that are absolutely necessary for defeat.

Here, the minimum conditions required by the game and the level of preparation agreed upon by the raid are separate. A team aiming for a quick strategy and a team learning for the first time do not need to have the same standards. Checking enchantments or consumables can be a way to match your goals and readiness, but just having expensive supplies does not tell you your attitude toward cooperation.

For beginners, it is more practical to check the standards of the recruitment article first rather than ‘absolutely the highest level doping’. All you have to do is match the necessary preparations, expected progress time, and familiarity with the strategy. I think the value of preparation lies in respecting each other's time, not in proving sincerity through the cost itself.

Realm consolidation does not put the whole world on one realm

Forever organizes play around rulesets rather than a long realm list. Normal, PvP, RP, and RP-PvP each provide a play environment, with Hardcore planned after launch. If you intend to group with friends, first check that you can select the same region, ruleset, and faction.

The expression ‘no servers’ does not mean that the server computer or all boundaries disappear. Regional divisions remain, and language preferences and rules also affect player placement. Therefore, it should not be understood that Korea, Taiwan, and China are merging into one or that users from all over the world can meet freely. You must check the rules provided in Korea and the scope of use between regions through the Korean service guide and actual selection screen.

The value of this structure does not end with simply showing many people on the screen. You should be able to meet the people you partied with today again the next day and be able to naturally work in the same space as your guild members. The development team also explained that their goal was to create an experience of encountering familiar people again.

Layering, which divides users from the same location into multiple spaces, helps accommodate the population, but it can ruin the feeling of the world being connected if party members suddenly appear in different spaces or encounters are interrupted. Therefore, in the official service, we plan to consider whether party joining is stable and whether the relationship of working together is maintained is more important than the number of users connected to the service itself. Changes that reduce the worry about server selection are only meaningful if they lead to the convenience of actual meetings.

Progression needs goals beyond the level cap

To continue to expand the level 60 world, it is important to know how to handle old content whenever new gear is released. If the difference is too large, previous reward dungeons and raids will quickly become a place to pass by, and if the difference is too small, the motivation to take on new challenges may be weakened. It remains to be seen how the long-term gear gap and return burden will be controlled.

At this time, the account-based legacy system and the device that connects activities other than combat power, such as camping, come into view. It was announced that the legacy system consists of challenges, benefits, and rewards through various activities, and that it is not a structure that requires developing secondary characters to obtain all character-related advantages. Camping creates a space for nearby players to rest, prepare, and share effects.

It can be seen in the same context that the heritage perk has a usage limit of 16 points per character at the time of release. It is a device that provides rewards to accounts that have been active a lot, but prevents the gap from accumulating into a gap that is difficult for new users to follow.

These factors do not completely solve the gear progression problem. However, a game that gives you a reason to log in only on the day you get the highest quality item, and a game that gives you a reason to play on the day you explore or continue your classal skills, may have different places in your life. Rather than making it mandatory to do more every day, making people feel like the journey continues even if they choose a different activity today fits the direction of Forever.

Separate subscription access from Skyborne upgrades

Distinguishing between basic game access rights and optional upgrades makes purchasing decisions easier.

How you want to use itPurchase conditions to check
Start after official release with existing racesActive WoW Subscription or Game Time
Use Skyborne and Zephras Island Beginning StoryAvailable times separate from Skyborne Heroic Pack and above
Participate in dictionary name reservationProducts eligible for reservation, such as eligible packages
Use game time included in package30 days included in Epic Pack and Forever Collection

The Skyborne Heroic Pack does not include 30 days of game time. Included time in the higher-tier products is an additional benefit, so compare it separately from cosmetics and content for other games. Optional extras should not be mistaken for requirements to access the base game.

Name reservations run from October 28 at 7 a.m. KST through November 4. Eligible accounts can reserve up to three character names across all rulesets. Availability is first come, first served, so a preferred name is not guaranteed. You can still create a character at launch without reserving one; consider how much the early name choice and Skyborne access matter to you.

The change expected from WoW: Forever is ultimately less about the speed of consuming new content and more about making it easier to make next appointments with people. If you make an unfamiliar discovery in a familiar area, try again with a colleague who made a mistake, and have a place to stay together even after taking a break, you will have a reason to stay for a long time. I think the most important test of an official service is whether or not it can continue to create such scenes, rather than how hot it is on the first day.
