In Set 18, six Juggernaut Zyra uses a durable frontline to buy time for Zyra with Archangel’s Staff and Hextech Gunblade. More AP alone does not stabilize the comp: prepare 2-star tanks, carry healing, and the units that will improve your late game.
Remember two checkpoints: build the midgame frontline around units such as Vi, then consider dropping to four Juggernauts when Ivern, Taric, or other upgrades are ready. If Zyra does not appear, another carry can use the items. Unit and item value changes by patch; no comp guarantees a rank climb or placement.
| Category | Main Plan |
|---|---|
| Core direction | Juggernaut frontline with sustained Zyra damage |
| Main Zyra items | Archangel’s Staff and Hextech Gunblade |
| Flexible third item | Jeweled Gauntlet, another Archangel’s, Spear of Shojin, or a situational alternative |
| Midgame target | Vi 2 and upgraded Juggernaut units |
| Without Zyra | Use an AP holder such as Ahri and consider an Alune transition |
| Late-game extension | Stay at six Juggernauts or combine four with high-cost units |
| Positioning check | Frontline absorbs attacks while backline stays alive |
The Core Is Frontline Duration Plus Healing
Archangel’s Zyra needs a long enough fight to scale. Juggernauts absorb attacks while she builds damage. Find the carry and finish the tanks together.
Gunblade helps Zyra recover when enemies damage the backline. Against threats such as Ahri or Ashe, taking a hit and healing before the next attack can matter.
Gunblade does not solve every matchup. It cannot help if Zyra dies before healing or her frontline disappears immediately. Secure both frontline survival time and Zyra’s ability to recover.
Start Zyra’s Items with Archangel’s and Gunblade

Choose the Third Slot Around Existing Items and Augments
For carry Zyra, build around Archangel’s Staff and Hextech Gunblade. Adjust the remaining slot with Jeweled Gauntlet, a second Archangel’s, Spear of Shojin, or another appropriate item.
An Archangel’s-supporting Augment and Rod components make this direction easier. Do not delay Gunblade endlessly while waiting for a second Archangel’s; usable items can preserve HP now.
| Item | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Archangel’s Staff | Does frontline last long enough for damage to ramp? |
| Hextech Gunblade | Can backline recover from incoming damage and keep fighting? |
| Jeweled Gauntlet | Does the current Augment and item setup need more damage? |
| Second Archangel’s Staff | Can frontline support another long-fight investment? |
| Spear of Shojin | Does Zyra need more casting support? |
Team support such as Void Staff can improve overall damage too. Plan items for supporting units, not only the carry’s three slots.
Anti-Heal: Check Coverage Before Adding More
With several anti-heal items such as Morellonomicon, Sunfire Cape, or Red Buff, check whether other jobs are uncovered. Multiple anti-heal slams cannot replace missing tank items.
If you can rework items, use that flexibility to fill defensive or damage-support gaps. Give anti-heal to units that can apply it reliably.
Use Natural Upgrades to Bridge the Early Game
Do not replace everything immediately to match the final comp. Use AP holders such as LeBlanc and narrow the plan around the frontline your shops offer.
With an Archangel’s-supporting Augment, compare Juggernaut Zyra and Defender Cassiopeia. Natural Juggernauts support the former; Defender and Spellweaver upgrades can support the latter.
Holding every possible unit for both lines can cost interest. Keep units you field now or could use next fight, then sell unrelated options as the route becomes clearer.
If Zyra arrives early, prepare item transfers and traits. Do not remove several strong upgrades at once just to make the comp name match.
At Levels 6 and 7, Look for Vi 2 Too

Rushing levels is a common midgame mistake. Even with spare HP and gold, mostly 1-star Juggernauts can fail to hold later fights.
Depending on board strength, a few rolls at 6 or 7 can find Vi and other 2-star Juggernauts while also looking for Zyra. If Zyra is contested, do not assume her 2-star will arrive on schedule.
Vi 2 is a useful stabilization checkpoint. Build strength with her and your available tanks instead of waiting only for Amumu. Alistar 2 can also hold defensive items during the midgame.
Before choosing rolls or XP, check:
- Does frontline buy Zyra enough attack time?
- Are Vi or other core pairs close to upgrading?
- Is Zyra contested enough to prepare another carry?
- Is a useful unit ready for the additional slot?
A few rolls are not a universal answer. A weak low-HP board may need more spending; a strong board can save and move toward the late game.
If Zyra Does Not Appear, Follow the Items
The Juggernaut shell can keep its frontline while changing carries. Missing Zyra does not require throwing away all your upgraded tanks.
With AP items and Archangel’s support, Ahri 2 can bridge toward Alune. If you still use Zyra 1 and find Alune 2, consider transferring items. Finding only one Alune is not enough reason to sell a finished carry immediately.
AD-heavy drops can instead support Sivir, Ashe, or ranged Nidalee. Prepare those options from the items offered rather than forcing a physical carry after making an entire AP build.
Late Game: Compare Six Juggernauts with a Four-Juggernaut Cap

Stay at Six When Zyra’s Setup Rewards More Time
Strong Zyra items and Archangel’s support can justify six Juggernauts. If frontline buys enough time, she can remain the board’s main damage source.
An early Maokai adds flexibility for reaching six. Compare preserving that frontline with dropping the trait for high-cost units based on immediate strength.
Consider Four When Ivern and Taric Are Ready
An early Ivern can let you stop at four Juggernauts and improve the open slots. Taric, Ashe, or other useful units can extend the board.
A swap may weaken you if every new unit is 1-star. Compare stars, items, and actual tanking, not only purchase prices.
| Current Position | Route to Compare |
|---|---|
| Strong Zyra items and Archangel’s support | Six Juggernauts to extend combat |
| Early Ivern or other useful high-cost units | Four Juggernauts with a stronger supporting cast |
| Zyra 1, with Alune 2 ready | Item transfer and carry swap |
| Sivir 2 and Ashe available | Extend through secondary AD damage |
| Most replacement units are 1-star | Recheck frontline strength before and after the swap |
Lux is another late option when her trait form fits, such as Blackthorn or Primal. Compare her job with Ivern or Taric rather than adding her only because she costs more.
Positioning: Solo Tank Early, Wider Frontline Later
Early, a solo-frontline tank can use Gargoyle Stoneplate. Later, a row of Juggernauts can catch incoming units. Against Kha’Zix in particular, inspect the paths between frontline and backline.
With Taric, review the link. Linking a more vulnerable frontline unit can help deploy his shield, but poor positioning may delay the effect and expose other units.
After a fight, watch what failed first. If tanks held but Zyra died, reposition backline. If tanks vanished, inspect their stars and items first.
FAQ
Do I Need an Archangel’s Augment?
No. Natural Juggernauts can support a carry that fits your items. Archangel’s support and AP items simply make Zyra a clearer direction.
Should I Chase Zyra 3?
The basic plan is Zyra 2 plus upgraded frontline, followed by levels and late-game additions. Use HP and contesting to choose the next stage instead of rolling indefinitely for Zyra 3.
Is the Comp Unplayable Without Amumu 2?
Vi 2 and available tanks can stabilize midgame. Use defensive items on a frontline you can field rather than leaving them idle while waiting for Amumu.
Do I Drop to Four Immediately After Finding Ivern?
No. Six may still provide the fight duration your Zyra needs, and low-star replacements may weaken the board. Compare the lost trait strength with what the new units actually add.
Which Augments Should I Look For?
Beyond Archangel’s support, consider effects such as Jeweled Lotus or Ascension when they fit the carry and fight pattern. Pandora’s options may help adjust items. Fill current item and combat gaps rather than following a fixed list regardless of the game.
When learning six Juggernaut Zyra, start with Archangel’s plus Gunblade, frontline upgrades such as Vi 2, and clear late-game transition conditions. Those checkpoints help you use a different carry when Zyra is late and expand when high-cost upgrades arrive.
Regional and version notes
This is a Set 18 comp framework, not a live North American performance ranking. Juggernaut Durability was reduced at four and six in Patch 18.4, so reassess frontline strength rather than assuming an older six-Juggernaut board is unchanged.
