Pokémon GO Worlds 2026 Catch Priorities and Special Move Recap

URITRIP·August 24, 2026

Pokémon GO's PokémonXP and 2026 World Championships celebration offered useful battle candidates alongside special moves. The August event has ended; this guide records the original catch priorities and move opportunities.

The focus went beyond Shinies: Great and Ultra League projects and raid teams could all benefit. These are the source's event-era recommendations, not a current competitive ranking.

The original PvP shortlist emphasized Lickitung, Mankey, Totodile, and Wooper. Beldum and Deino also offered raid or Master League projects for Trainers less interested in capped leagues.

PokémonXP and Worlds 2026 Dates

The event had two phases with different encounter pools. Both used local time at your play location, including North America.

  • PokémonXP: August 25, 2026, 10:00 a.m.–August 28, 10:00 a.m.
  • World Championships 2026: August 28, 10:00 a.m.–August 30, 8:00 p.m.

Ralts, Spheal, Sobble, and rarer Deino were first-phase targets. The later pool included Lickitung, Mankey, Totodile, Wooper, and rarer Beldum for a different set of PvP and raid projects.

The Original Catch Priority List

Priority Pokémon and Evolution Suggested role Featured move
1 Lickitung / Lickilicky Great / Ultra League Body Slam
2 Mankey / Primeape / Annihilape Great / Ultra League Rage Fist
3 Totodile / Feraligatr Great / Ultra League Hydro Cannon
4 Beldum / Metagross Raids / Master League Meteor Mash
5 Wooper / Quagsire Great League Aqua Tail
6 Alolan Sandshrew / Alolan Sandslash Great / Ultra League Shadow Claw
7 Deino / Hydreigon Dark-type raids Brutal Swing
8 Spheal / Walrein Great / Ultra League Powder Snow / Icicle Spear

Lickitung and Lickilicky

Lickitung was the source's first PvP collection target.

Eligible Lickitung catches and Lickilicky Evolutions during the event could receive Body Slam. The source valued its shield pressure; subsequent Twilight Trails changes altered Body Slam's power and energy cost, so use current move counts when evaluating it now.

Great League Lickitung and Ultra League Lickilicky could require substantial Candy, Candy XL, and Stardust. Collecting resources mattered alongside finding the desired IVs.

Mankey, Primeape, and Annihilape

Mankey's line leads to Primeape and Annihilape. Eligible event catches or Evolutions of the featured stages could receive Rage Fist.

Rage Fist's self-Attack boost can build pressure over a longer battle. The source proposed separate Great and Ultra League candidates, but later balance changes mean those event-era judgments need current matchup checks.

Annihilape has an additional evolution requirement. Selecting the intended Mankey and completing the necessary steps early was safer than leaving everything to the event's final minutes.

Totodile and Feraligatr

Hydro Cannon was the key special move highlighted for Feraligatr.

The source valued its damage and energy efficiency for both shield pressure and finishing. Keeping suitable candidates for Great and Ultra League could be useful, provided their evolved CP stayed within the relevant cap.

For a Shadow Totodile project, Frustration needed separate attention. Evolution during a special-move event does not simply remove Frustration or bypass its move-slot restrictions.

Beldum and Metagross

Beldum was a rarer wild encounter, making each opportunity useful for a planned Metagross project.

Meteor Mash was the featured Steel move for raid and Master League use. A high-Attack candidate and enough Candy could also support a later Mega Metagross project, subject to actual availability and requirements.

Pinap or Silver Pinap Berries were options for increasing Candy from a successful Beldum catch.

Wooper and Quagsire

Johto Wooper evolves into Water/Ground-type Quagsire, a potential Great League option. Do not confuse that evolution with Paldean Wooper's Clodsire.

Quagsire strongly resists Electric attacks in Pokémon GO's type system. Eligible event Evolutions could receive Aqua Tail for relatively frequent pressure.

Under a CP cap, lower Attack with higher Defense and HP can often fit more total stats. Keep PvP candidates separate rather than retaining only three-star appraisals.

Alolan Sandshrew and Alolan Sandslash

Alolan Sandshrew could evolve into Alolan Sandslash with Shadow Claw during the featured window.

The source valued Shadow Claw's energy generation for Great and Ultra League. Alolan Sandslash is especially vulnerable to Fire and Fighting, so its team needs appropriate support.

If you own a suitable Shadow Alolan Sandshrew, compare its intended role and costs as well; being Shadow is a separate consideration from getting the featured Fast Attack.

Deino and Hydreigon

Deino was a rarer wild encounter during the first phase.

Evolving the appropriate stage into Hydreigon during the event could give it Brutal Swing for a Dark-type raid role.

Raid-focused Trainers could move Deino and Beldum up the list. Evolution and power-up Candy mattered as well as IVs.

Spheal and Walrein

Eligible Evolutions into Walrein could receive Powder Snow and Icicle Spear during the event.

Those were the source's important PvP moves for Great and Ultra League projects. Their current value still depends on the active balance patch and opponents.

Evolving a new candidate during that window was one alternative to spending Elite TMs on a Walrein that lacked its special moves.

Other Pokémon Worth Checking

After your main goals, the source also suggested:

  • Ralts: Gardevoir, Gallade, and future Mega candidates
  • Froakie: Hydro Cannon Greninja
  • Sobble: Hydro Cannon Inteleon
  • Litten: Blast Burn Incineroar
  • Togetic: Aura Sphere Togekiss
  • Drifloon: Drifblim for a suitable restricted format
  • Pawmi: Pawmot evolution and possible format-specific use
  • Numel: Camerupt and Mega preparation

The source assigned Synchronoise on Gardevoir and Gallade a lower priority than the core moves above. Good Ralts candidates and Candy could matter more than collecting that move for its own sake.

Costume Pikachu and Honedge

The event introduced Pikachu wearing a Cosmog-themed spacesuit and World Championships 2026 Pikachu, with possible Shinies. Their announced raid and Field Research opportunities were separate from the main battle-building priorities.

Honedge appeared in later-phase one-star raids. Collecting it was a valid goal, but it still needed to fit your pass budget alongside any battle projects.

A Practical Event Plan

Clear storage and create tags for Great League, Ultra League, and raids before a busy session. Check candidates before mass-transferring them.

The original plan emphasized Spheal and Deino early, then Lickitung, Mankey, Totodile, Wooper, and Beldum later.

Before the special-move window ended, compare keepers and finish eligible Evolutions. A Star Piece made sense only if an actual Stardust bonus or planned reward collection justified it; this event summary does not establish an unspecified catch bonus.

Prioritize the Role You Need

The source's PvP order favored Lickitung, Mankey, Totodile, Wooper, and Alolan Sandshrew. Raid or longer-term projects could favor Beldum and Deino instead.

The main opportunity was obtaining suitable individuals with moves such as Body Slam, Rage Fist, Hydro Cannon, and Meteor Mash. The August event's acquisition window is over; check present move availability before evolving today.
