Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers 2026—Snom, Catch Priorities, and Hatch Bonuses

URITRIP·August 5, 2026

Pokémon GO's Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers ran August 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. through August 10 at 8:00 p.m. local time. The event and its reward-claim windows have ended.

The event featured Fire- and Ice-type encounters, the debut of Shiny Snom, and wild catches such as Swinub and Alolan Vulpix that could support battle projects.

The original strategy separated raid upgrades, PvP candidates, and boosted Shiny targets rather than trying to prioritize every encounter equally.

Arctic Embers Dates and Features

  • August 4, 2026, 10:00 a.m.–August 10, 8:00 p.m., local time at your play location
  • Featured types: Fire and Ice
  • Shiny debut: Snom
  • Activities: wild encounters, 5 km Eggs, Field Research, Timed Research, and GO Pass
  • Bonuses: rank-gated PokéStop XP and reduced Hatch Distance

GO Pass milestones unlocked the XP and hatch benefits. For an Egg-focused plan, reaching Rank 20 before placing Eggs in Incubators was the relevant order; owning the pass alone did not unlock every bonus.

The Original Catch and Hatch Priorities

1. Swinub

Swinub was the source's leading practical catch target.

Its line evolves through Piloswine into Mamoswine, which can provide Ice damage against suitable Dragon, Flying, and Ground targets.

The wild Swinub opportunities could support these goals:

  • A suitable high-Attack raid candidate
  • Swinub Candy and Candy XL
  • Candy for a separate Shadow Swinub project
  • Candidates for an intended PvP format

High Horsepower is a Ground Charged Attack with special acquisition considerations. Check the relevant event or Elite Charged TM availability if you want it. An Ice raid role instead needs an appropriate Ice moveset; this event did not automatically grant every desired move.

2. Galarian Darumaka

Both ordinary and Galarian Darumaka were in the event's 5 km Egg pool.

Galarian Darmanitan, evolved from Galarian Darumaka, can fill an Ice raid role. That made it a candidate for a roster missing suitable Ice attackers.

Ordinary Darumaka can provide a Fire project instead. The source favored its Galarian counterpart for this particular Ice-focused plan.

Neither was a guaranteed hatch. If using Incubators, treat Snom and Galarian Darumaka as possible targets within a mixed pool.

3. Alolan Vulpix

Alolan Vulpix evolves into Ice/Fairy Alolan Ninetales, a possible PvP project.

The source emphasized Great League and restricted formats rather than raids. Lower Attack with higher bulk can be useful under a CP cap, so do not mass-transfer those candidates solely on appraisal stars.

Ordinary Vulpix was also featured. Check the form in the encounter before sorting it into a planned evolution project.

4. Snorunt

Snorunt can evolve into Glalie or, for a female with the required Candy and Sinnoh Stone, Froslass.

Froslass may fit Great League or selected cups. Check sex, evolved CP, and the intended IV spread rather than keeping only the highest Attack specimens.

Glalie also has a Mega Evolution, but a limited resource budget could reasonably prioritize Swinub and Alolan Vulpix first.

5. Snom

Shiny Snom debuted during this event.

Snom's announced routes were GO Pass tasks and Eggs, rather than an ordinary wild appearance. A Snom-focused plan therefore involved both pass progression and the relevant 5 km Eggs.

A first entry and evolution Candy were distinct goals. Additional encounters could help the Candy project without guaranteeing a Shiny.

Wild Encounter Priorities

The event's wild examples included:

  • Vulpix
  • Alolan Vulpix
  • Growlithe
  • Swinub
  • Snorunt
  • Ponyta
  • Snover
  • Slugma
  • Vanillite

Ponyta and Snover were featured August 4, 6, 8, and 10. Slugma and Vanillite were featured August 5, 7, 9, and 10. August 10 belonged to both lists.

The source's practical battle-building order was:

  1. Swinub
  2. Alolan Vulpix
  3. Snorunt
  4. Snover
  5. Growlithe
  6. Ponyta, Slugma, and Vanillite as collecting targets

Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite had an announced increased Shiny chance. A collector could prioritize those checks instead of following the source's battle-building order.

Planning the 5 km Eggs

The announced event pool included:

  • Sneasel
  • Darumaka
  • Galarian Darumaka
  • Sizzlipede
  • Snom

The source's first hatch goals were Snom and Galarian Darumaka. Sneasel could support a Weavile project, but an existing Dark or Ice team could make that less urgent.

GO Pass Rank 20 unlocked half Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event. Deluxe improved that to one-quarter distance under the stated conditions.

Unlock the bonus before placing an Egg in an Incubator. Do not assume a newly unlocked reduction applies retroactively to an Egg already incubating.

Field Research Targets

Event Field Research offered encounters including Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite.

Those species had increased Shiny chances during the event. Encounter-reward tasks gave collectors another way to check them.

Deleting an unwanted task and checking a different PokéStop could broaden your available tasks, subject to the usual research rules; it did not reset a completed stop's daily reward indefinitely.

Timed Research

The source recorded these free Timed Research rewards:

  • 16,800 XP
  • Pikachu wearing a marathon visor

Timed Research expired August 10, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Both tasks and reward claims needed to be finished before expiry.

Unlocked GO Pass rewards had a different deadline: August 12 at 8:00 p.m. local time. That claim period did not extend the event or pass-earning window.

Free GO Pass vs. Deluxe

The free track offered event encounters, Stardust, XP, Rare Candy, Ultra Balls, and other rewards as you progressed.

Deluxe added rewards such as:

  • More event Pokémon encounters
  • Incense
  • Silver Pinap Berries
  • Rare Candy XL
  • Species-specific Candy XL
  • The stronger rank-gated Hatch Distance bonus

A substantial hatch plan could make those extras more relevant. A wild Swinub and Alolan Vulpix goal did not require buying Deluxe, and neither track guaranteed Shiny Snom.

A Practical Event Sequence

The source proposed this order:

  1. Receive the free GO Pass and inspect tasks.
  2. Progress feasible pass ranks.
  3. Unlock Rank 20's hatch bonus.
  4. Place appropriate 5 km Eggs in Incubators after the bonus is active.
  5. Prioritize relevant wild Swinub and Alolan Vulpix.
  6. Check Field Research encounters for the boosted Shiny targets.
  7. Finish Timed Research and claim its rewards before expiry.
  8. Review unlocked pass rewards before their separate claim deadline.

If hatching was not your goal, Swinub catches and manageable pass progress could take priority over an Incubator-heavy plan.

Choose Your Arctic Embers Goals

The point was not to catch every Fire- and Ice-type Pokémon equally.

The source favored Swinub and Galarian Darumaka for raid projects, Alolan Vulpix and Snorunt for appropriate PvP roles, and Snom or the four boosted species for Shiny collecting.

Its three key reminders were:

  • Prioritize Swinub in a raid-building wild catch plan.
  • Unlock Rank 20 before starting Eggs intended for its reduction.
  • Finish and claim Timed Research before August 10, 8:00 p.m. local time.

A limited budget worked best with selected battle and collection goals. This is a historical event guide; the August encounter, bonus, and claim windows are closed.
