Mega Mewtwo Y and Rayquaza: July 2026 Makeup Raids and Ozone Ascent Recap

URITRIP·July 20, 2026

Ozone Ascent: Dates and Rewards

Ozone Ascent ran July 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. through July 26 at 8:00 p.m. local time, including those clock hours at North American play locations. The event has ended.

Its free Timed Research offered rewards including:

  • A Meteorite
  • A Rayquaza encounter
  • Other research rewards

Separate US$4.99 Timed Research, or the equivalent local pricing tier, offered:

  • A Meteorite
  • Rayquaza Mega Energy
  • A Rayquaza encounter
  • Other research rewards

Meteorites and Dragon Ascent

Rayquaza cannot Mega Evolve using Mega Energy alone.

It must know the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent. Teaching that move requires a consumable Meteorite, a separate requirement from Mega Energy.

The preparation sequence was:

  1. Obtain the Meteorite through the eligible research.
  2. Choose the Rayquaza you actually intend to develop.
  3. Use the Meteorite to teach Dragon Ascent.
  4. Meet that individual's Mega Energy requirement.
  5. Mega Evolve the eligible Rayquaza with Dragon Ascent.

Meteorites are scarce, so choose the candidate carefully. The Ozone Ascent announcement identified research rewards rather than announcing a separate Mega Rayquaza raid window. The paid research's Energy and the free Meteorite opportunity were different offers.

The Worldwide Makeup Raid Event

The GO Fest 2026 Sunday makeup raid event ran July 26, 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. local time. The July 17 update expanded it to all Trainers worldwide, superseding the older restricted-time-zone wording still visible lower on the notice. That update included North America.

The themed Legendary and Mega raid blocks rotated every three hours, while Mega Mewtwo Y featured in Super Mega Raids throughout the main event. This is a historical schedule, not a current rotation.

Local hours Official English theme Selected targets from the source
10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Earthforged Domain Origin Forme Dialga and Palkia, Landorus, Enamorus
1:00–4:00 p.m. Verdant Anomaly Deoxys, Genesect, the Tapu Pokémon, Ultra Beasts
4:00–7:00 p.m. Twilight Battlefield Darkrai, Terrakion, Hero-form Zacian and Zamazenta
10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. Super Mega Raids Mega Mewtwo Y

Earthforged Domain Raid Options

The announced 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. five-star lineup included:

  • Regirock
  • Regice
  • Registeel
  • Origin Forme Dialga
  • Origin Forme Palkia
  • Heatran
  • Regigigas
  • Incarnate and Therian Forme Tornadus
  • Incarnate and Therian Forme Thundurus
  • Incarnate and Therian Forme Landorus
  • Regieleki
  • Regidrago
  • Incarnate and Therian Forme Enamorus

The corresponding Mega raids included:

  • Mega Metagross
  • Mega Garchomp
  • Mega Audino

The source favored Origin Forme Dialga, Origin Forme Palkia, Therian Landorus, and Therian Enamorus for its own collection or battle goals. That was an editorial shortlist, not a measured current ranking.

The makeup notice did not explicitly promise Roar of Time on Dialga or Spacial Rend on Palkia. A featured species listing alone did not guarantee those special moves; check the actual catch rather than spending passes on an unstated promise.

Verdant Anomaly Raid Options

The 1:00–4:00 p.m. lineup included:

  • Attack, Defense, Normal, and Speed Forme Deoxys
  • Genesect and its listed Drive forms
  • Tapu Koko
  • Tapu Lele
  • Tapu Bulu
  • Tapu Fini
  • Nihilego
  • Xurkitree in Asia-Pacific; Buzzwole in the Americas and Greenland; Pheromosa in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India
  • Celesteela in the Southern Hemisphere
  • Kartana in the Northern Hemisphere
  • Guzzlord
  • Necrozma
  • Stakataka in the Eastern Hemisphere; Blacephalon in the Western Hemisphere
  • Other regional conditions followed the event's actual boss assignments

The original Korean article emphasized Asia-Pacific's Xurkitree. North American local raids instead needed the announced Americas and hemisphere assignments; a Korean regional boss should not be copied into a North American schedule.

The block's Mega lineup included:

  • Mega Beedrill
  • Mega Pinsir
  • Mega Sceptile

The source favored offensive or fusion projects such as Xurkitree, Kartana, and Necrozma where accessible. Regional access and your actual roster changed the order. Deoxys and Genesect are Mythical and cannot be obtained through ordinary trading, so their own encounter opportunities mattered separately.

Twilight Battlefield Raid Options

The 4:00–7:00 p.m. lineup included:

  • Latias
  • Latios
  • Cresselia
  • Darkrai
  • Cobalion
  • Terrakion
  • Virizion
  • Hero of Many Battles Zacian
  • Hero of Many Battles Zamazenta

The block's Mega lineup included:

  • Mega Tyranitar
  • Mega Gardevoir
  • Mega Lucario

The source considered Terrakion, Zacian, Zamazenta, and Cresselia for its raid or PvP goals. Darkrai was a separate Mythical collection project that ordinary trading could not replace. These priorities were situational rather than a permanent competitive order.

The notice did not advertise Crowned Sword Energy or Crowned Shield Energy from those Hero-form raids. Do not treat a Hero-form encounter as a Crowned form-change resource source without an explicit applicable reward announcement.

Mega Mewtwo Y: The Battle Plan

Pure Psychic Mega Mewtwo Y is weak to these attack types:

  • Bug
  • Ghost
  • Dark

Super Mega shields add a coordination requirement. The official introduction calls for a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in the party to perform its powered shield-breaking attack; ordinary favorable damage alone is not the full mechanic.

Mega Counter Examples from the Source

  • Mega Tyranitar: Bite / Brutal Swing
  • Mega Houndoom: Snarl / Foul Play
  • Mega Gengar: Shadow Claw / Shadow Ball
  • Mega Pinsir: Bug Bite / X-Scissor, where that move is available
  • Mega Beedrill: Bug Bite / X-Scissor, with any special move-access requirement checked first

Incoming moves can quickly remove a vulnerable counter. Include the actual Mega Evolution in the party before entry rather than assuming owning its Energy is enough for the automatic shield-phase switch.

Group Preparation for Mega Mewtwo Y

The original Super Mega rule lets each prepared Trainer break one shield. Later specific effects can modify that rule, so use the applicable mechanics rather than assuming one person can remove every shield. The official introduction recommends at least seven other prepared Trainers, with Legendary bosses potentially needing more.

The source's group checklist was:

  • Bring an eligible Mega-Evolved Pokémon in each intended shield-breaker's party.
  • Prepare suitable Dark, Ghost, or Bug attacks.
  • Recruit for the actual boss and team strength rather than treating a suggested minimum as a guaranteed clear.
  • Keep the game active during the battle where practical.
  • Prepare a replacement party and healing supplies for a relobby.

The source reported backgrounding-related shield problems during play. Treat that as a historical troubleshooting observation, not a verified universal bug on every current version. Staying in the battle screen was its practical precaution.

Catches, Mega Levels, and Energy

The source reported that these Super Mega catches had at least the first Mega Level unlocked for Mega Mewtwo Y, allowing an initial Energy-free activation on that particular catch. This catch-state description is retained from the source; check the individual's actual Mega button and rest state instead of applying it to every Mewtwo.

The source also reported possible higher starting Mega Levels. Those observations are not a guaranteed level distribution established by the makeup notice.

Its recorded reward and catch goals included:

  • Mega Mewtwo Y Mega Energy
  • A Mewtwo with Psystrike, as recorded by the source; inspect the actual moves rather than assuming the makeup notice guarantees it
  • A possible Shiny Mewtwo
  • A possible Special Background
  • Extra background visuals on the applicable background Mewtwo while Mega Evolved

The source distinguishes Mewtwo X and Y Energy requirements. This event featured Y, so do not assume resources or progression for the other form are automatically completed. Use the actual form-specific screen.

Planning the Up-to-12 Free Raid Passes

The updated announcement offered up to 12 free Raid Passes from Gym Photo Discs. This was not a bundle of 12 Remote Raid Passes or an automatic grant of all 12 at once.

The source's suggested order was:

  1. Complete a suitable Mega Mewtwo Y attempt if it matched your goal.
  2. Make additional IV, Shiny, background, or Energy attempts within your budget.
  3. Choose needed Legendary targets in their assigned block.
  4. Use other Mega raids for a specific missing Energy goal.
  5. Use only the remaining passes you actually wanted to spend before the event ended.

An initial Mega unlock could be a useful goal. Extra attempts remained optional and did not guarantee a better individual or a background.

Remote Entry and Link Charges

The Remote Raid limit was removed in a fixed interval, not merely each location's raid hours: July 25, 1:00 p.m.–July 26, 11:59 p.m. PDT (July 25, 4:00 p.m.–July 27, 2:59 a.m. EDT). A remote Super Mega attempt still required both:

  • A Remote Raid Pass
  • The required Link Charges

The event raised the Link Charge cap to 2,000. Local entry offered the applicable free Raid Pass, Premium Battle Pass, or Link Charge route under the entry rules; remote entry had its separate combined cost.

Before joining, coordinate the group and eligible Megas. An unlimited participation cap did not supply free entry items or guarantee sufficient shield breaks.

The Original Two-Day Checklist

July 25 Preparation

  • Obtain eligible free Timed Research during its window.
  • Check the Meteorite task conditions.
  • Choose the intended Rayquaza.
  • Check its existing Mega Energy.
  • Prepare a suitable Mega for Mega Mewtwo Y.
  • Stock Potions and Revives.

July 26 Plan

  • Collect available free Raid Passes from Gym Photo Discs during the event.
  • Prioritize the intended Mega Mewtwo Y goal with a suitable group.
  • Check the block for each desired Legendary.
  • Collect the next available pass after using the current one.
  • Finish the raid event by 7:00 p.m. local time.
  • Finish and claim Ozone Ascent Timed Research by 8:00 p.m. local time.

Mega Mewtwo Y and Rayquaza FAQ

Was a Mega Rayquaza Raid the Meteorite Source Here?

The Ozone Ascent announcement identified free and paid Timed Research for Meteorites. It did not announce a separate Mega Rayquaza raid window for this activity.

Can an Elite Charged TM Teach Dragon Ascent?

No. The official notice says Dragon Ascent is learned through a Meteorite. Mega Energy and an ordinary or Elite TM do not replace that item requirement.

When Did Mega Mewtwo Y Appear?

The makeup event featured it in Super Mega Raids July 26, 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. local time, rather than limiting it to one of the three themed raid blocks.

Did Every Existing Mewtwo Get a Free Initial Mega Evolution?

No. The source's report concerned the Mega Level already unlocked on those particular Super Mega catches. An older Mewtwo needed its own applicable Energy, form, and move checks; inspect the actual individual before planning a free activation.

Could You Join Mega Mewtwo Y Remotely?

Yes, under the remote Super Mega entry rules using both a Remote Raid Pass and Link Charges. The group still needed eligible Mega shield-breakers and an appropriate battle plan.

Were Roar of Time and Spacial Rend Guaranteed?

The makeup notice did not explicitly promise those moves. Check each catch rather than assuming that appearing in the raid roster guaranteed its special attack. Both July event windows discussed here are now over.

Regional and version notes

English localization reviewed October 23, 2026 for North American players. Global event schedules marked local time follow your actual play location. Japanese destination schedules retain JST and Mexico City schedules retain GMT−6. Ended event and reward windows are historical. Team priorities and upgrade suggestions are editorial guidance, not guaranteed wins, IVs, or a current measured performance ranking. The July 17 update expands the makeup raid event worldwide and supersedes its older UTC+14-to-UTC+0 subheading. The fixed PDT remote-cap window is distinct from local raid hours. Regional Ultra Beasts are localized for the Americas and hemisphere conditions. The source’s starting Mega Level, first-activation, Psystrike, and background-app observations are retained as source reports, not new guarantees in the makeup notice. The later Mewtwo X shield-related Adventure Effect is separate from the default Super Mega introduction. Some illustrations are retained from the Korean edition and may include Korean labels.
