Pokémon GO communities sometimes describe particular places as unusually good for 100% IV Pokémon, often called hundos.
You may hear that one Gym produces more hundos or that a Power Spot gave someone another perfect catch. Does visiting that location actually improve your next encounter's IV odds?
The source provides no evidence for a special perfect-IV bonus attached to an ordinary Gym or Power Spot. Busy locations can still produce more reported hundos for a different reason: more eligible encounters.
Why a Location Gets a Hundo Reputation
Repeated perfect catches at one place feel meaningful. Often, however, the observation reflects the number of people and attempts rather than a demonstrated location bonus.
A quiet area may host only a few attempts, while a busy area has many Trainers completing multiple battles in the same period.
For raids or other encounters that assign individuals their own IV results, more people and more attempts make someone's hundo report less surprising. Sharing those reports can give the area a lucky reputation. Shared wild spawns are a different situation and should not automatically be modeled as independent rolls for every player.
The location may have increased the total number of attempts, without changing the probability of any one standard encounter.
Calculating a Standard Perfect-IV Example
The following calculation assumes each of Attack, Defense, and HP is independently and uniformly selected from 10 through 15, as in the source's standard non-Shadow raid/Max encounter model. It is not a universal rule for every encounter, special bonus, or event.
Each stat then has six possible values, giving 216 equally likely combinations.
- Attack IV: 10–15
- Defense IV: 10–15
- HP IV: 10–15
- Possible combinations: 6 × 6 × 6 = 216
- Perfect-IV probability under this model: 1/216
- Approximately 0.46% per eligible encounter
An average waiting time of 216 independent rolls does not guarantee success by roll 216. Each new roll follows the model's probability regardless of earlier failures.
The first encounter could be perfect, or 500 encounters could still produce none. Encountering a hundo also does not guarantee catching it.
Chance of at Least One Perfect-IV Encounter
For n independent eligible encounters with probability 1/216 each, the chance of at least one perfect result is 1 − (215/216)^n.
| Independent eligible encounters | Chance of at least one perfect-IV result |
|---|---|
| 10 | About 4.5% |
| 50 | About 20.7% |
| 100 | About 37.1% |
| 200 | About 60.5% |
| 300 | About 75.1% |
| 500 | About 90.2% |
After 100 such encounters, about 63% would still have no perfect result. A location where many people each generate numerous results can nevertheless keep producing hundo screenshots.
That difference helps explain why a busy location can seem unusually lucky. It does not prove an actual location modifier.
Does a Previous Hundo Affect the Next Encounter?
Returning to a Gym that produced a hundo can feel promising.
Under the independent-roll model, a previous result does not change the next 1/216 probability. A long dry streak does not make the next result due, either. Check any actual special-event IV rules separately rather than assuming this model always applies.
Clusters of good results can happen by chance. A small collection of successes is not enough to establish a hidden location bonus.
Remembering exceptional catches more vividly than ordinary ones also helps create a hotspot reputation.
What Makes a Useful Location?
A location can improve your practical opportunities by making more eligible encounters feasible, even when it does not change each encounter's odds.
Nearby Battle Locations
Short distances between accessible Gyms or Power Spots can reduce travel time. Actual encounter access, daily restrictions, and resource availability still limit the attempts you can make.
Enough Participants
For difficult bosses, a reliable group can reduce waiting and make victories possible. Local community meetups may help more than a rumor about a lucky Gym.
A Simple Walking Route
Repeated road crossings and long gaps can reduce how much you complete. A compact accessible loop may suit a limited event better than a large but awkward cluster.
Places to Take a Break
For a longer event, weather, battery, and stamina affect the plan. Accessible rest facilities can help you maintain a realistic session without rushing.
A Practical Hundo-Hunting Plan
Choose a location that supports manageable, eligible attempts rather than traveling solely for a rumored hidden bonus.
Check the route and access beforehand, and budget the required passes or Max Particles. Organizing catches and storage efficiently can leave more time for the activities you intended to do.
A known perfect-IV catch CP can flag an encounter worth extra attention when the species, form, and encounter level match. CP is a screening tool; use appraisal afterward rather than assuming one number proves every possible encounter is perfect.
Coordinate appropriate moves and power-ups before the group starts. Faster, reliable clears may allow more planned attempts, subject to the event's actual limits.
Attempt Volume Matters More Than Hotspot Folklore
A favorite location can have personal meaning after a good catch. That is different from evidence that it changes the next IV roll.
For a practical plan, ask:
- How many eligible encounters fit the available time and resources?
- Can the group reliably complete the battles?
- Can the route reduce unnecessary travel and sorting delays?
A past hundo alone does not make a location statistically special.
Useful locations have accessible battle opportunities, suitable groups, and manageable routes. The probability table is a conditional model of independent encounters, not a guarantee or a reason to buy a fixed number of attempts.
Regional and version notes
English localization reviewed October 23, 2026. Global schedules marked local time use the clock at your play location, including North America. Korean destination activities retain KST. Ended event and reward windows do not reopen through this guide. Recommendations and tier comparisons are the original author’s strategic assessment, not an independently measured current leaderboard or guaranteed outcome. Probabilities are calculated from the explicit assumption of independent uniformly distributed 10–15 IVs for each stat, not quoted official universal odds. Shadow encounters, special events, and shared wild spawns may differ. The 200-encounter probability is corrected to 60.5% by rounding 1 − (215/216)^200. CP is a screening aid, not a replacement for appraisal. Repeating a battle does not necessarily provide another eligible reward encounter.
