Catching a 15/15/15 Beldum in Pokémon GO makes evolving it immediately tempting. Metagross can support Steel raid teams, Master League projects, and an eligible Mega Evolution plan.
If you do not intend to spend an Elite Charged TM, check special-move availability before the final evolution. Meteor Mash is not ordinarily obtained by evolving at any random time or repeatedly using regular Charged TMs.
Why Keep a Perfect Beldum Unevolved?

A hundo has 15 Attack, 15 Defense, and 15 HP IVs. High IVs suit uncapped raid or Master League projects, though species, level, attacks, and a genuine roster need still matter.
Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash are a standard Steel-role example. The usual acquisition routes for Meteor Mash are a specifically announced eligible Metang-to-Metagross evolution window or an Elite Charged TM on Metagross.
Outside such a window, an ordinary evolution does not automatically grant Meteor Mash. Repeated regular Charged TMs are not a way around its special acquisition. Waiting can conserve a scarce Elite TM when no immediate build is needed.
Great and Ultra League have different CP considerations, and a lower-Attack spread can sometimes fit more total stats. A hundo is not automatically the best candidate for every capped format.
Meteor Mash vs. Flash Cannon
Flash Cannon is a Steel Charged Attack alternative, but the source's comparison emphasizes the energy difference. The numbers below are retained as its move-reference snapshot, not a guarantee that no future balance patch changes them.
| Metric | Meteor Mash | Flash Cannon |
|---|---|---|
| Gym / raid power in the source | 100 | 100 |
| Gym / raid energy in the source | 50 | 100 |
| Trainer Battle power in the source | 100 | 110 |
| Trainer Battle energy in the source | 45 | 65 |
In that raid snapshot, equal listed power came at half the energy for Meteor Mash. More accessible attacks can reduce the chance of fainting with a large amount of unused energy; actual damage also depends on move timing and the battle.
In the recorded PvP values, Flash Cannon had 10 more power but needed 20 more energy. Meteor Mash's earlier access was the source's reason for favoring its pressure and finishing opportunities.
That acquisition plan matters when the intended role is a Steel Metagross build. It is still worth checking current move values and the actual matchup before spending.
What About Mega Metagross?

Mega Evolution normally retains the Pokémon's ordinary moves. A Metagross that knows Meteor Mash can use that ordinary attack while Mega Evolved where the form is available.
Mega Evolving a Metagross without Meteor Mash does not, by itself, teach that special ordinary move. Separately announced additional Mega Charged Attacks follow their own rules; do not confuse the two systems.
For GO Battle League, check the current format and recommended Fast Attack and coverage move as well. An old raid set is not automatically the current PvP set.
How to Obtain Meteor Mash
The usual routes discussed in the source were:
- Evolve Metang during a specifically confirmed Meteor Mash window.
- Use an Elite Charged TM on an already-evolved eligible Metagross.
Read the featured species and the exact evolution cutoff. An event's main hours and its special-move evolution window can differ.
A December recap sometimes brings back selected moves, but the eligible species vary by year. Do not assume Beldum qualifies before the actual list is announced.
You can evolve Beldum into Metang beforehand; the crucial step is the final evolution into Metagross. Favorite the intended candidate to reduce accidental transfers or an unplanned final evolution.
Shadow Beldum: Handle Frustration First
A Shadow candidate retaining Frustration cannot simply receive the featured evolution Charged Attack in that occupied slot. Unlocking another Charged Attack is not a workaround for an evolution-only Community Day move.
For a Shadow project, the planned order is:
- Wait for an announced window that allows Frustration removal.
- Use the appropriate Charged TM to remove Frustration during that window.
- Complete the eligible final evolution during a confirmed Meteor Mash window.
- Check the resulting Metagross's actual moves.
Purifying removes Shadow status and its associated damage tradeoff, so do not treat it as a reversible way to tidy a moveset. If your goal is Shadow Metagross, plan Frustration removal while keeping it Shadow. A Purified candidate still needs the applicable special-move acquisition conditions.
Not Every Special Move Is Mandatory

A limited-acquisition move is not always the best attack for every role. Check whether you actually intend to use it in raids or the chosen PvP format.
The source considered Meteor Mash important to its Steel Metagross project. Other special moves can be more situational or less useful than an ordinary alternative.
Before deciding to wait, ask:
- Is the move relevant to the intended raid role?
- Is it relevant to the intended GO Battle League format?
- Is the difference from ordinary alternatives meaningful?
- Will you actually power up this individual?
- Would an Elite TM be justified if you evolve now?
The decision should follow the final Pokémon's role, rather than the word special alone.
When Evolving Immediately Can Make Sense
Not every Beldum needs to wait indefinitely. Reasons to evolve now include:
- You need a temporary Steel attacker immediately.
- You have chosen to spend an available Elite Charged TM.
- It is a replaceable temporary candidate rather than your long-term hundo.
- A confirmed Meteor Mash event is currently active and the evolution qualifies.
- A Pokédex entry or evolution task is your actual priority.
An ordinary candidate can fill an immediate gap while a rare hundo or good Shadow candidate waits for a suitable plan. Your resource budget determines whether that tradeoff is worthwhile.
If you already evolved, the Pokémon is not ruined. Check the Elite Charged TM option rather than discarding an otherwise useful Metagross. The original external move link and Korean support link are retained; English official references follow below.
