TFT Set 18 Juggernaut Zyra: Archangel’s Items and the Alune Transition

URITRIP·September 23, 2026

In Set 18, six Juggernaut Zyra buys time for an Archangel’s backline carry to ramp damage. Zyra stabilizes the midgame, then Alune and Lux can raise the late-game ceiling.

Good Zyra items are only part of the plan. Tank upgrades, mana generation, carry-swap timing, and enemy melee entry paths matter too. This guide analyzes one Set 18 gameplay example; items and comp strength can change by patch.

Quick Game Plan

Category Plan
Core board Six Juggernaut frontline plus Zyra
Zyra items Archangel’s-focused; verify mana support
Midgame stabilization Zyra 2 and upgraded main tanks
Main tank Amumu, with Maokai when available
Late-game extension Find Alune and Ivern; use a suitable Lux form
Positioning priority Have tanks catch incoming threats so backline survives

How Does Six Juggernaut Zyra Win?

The comp uses a longer fight to increase backline damage. Juggernauts absorb attacks while Zyra scales through Archangel’s Staff and keeps dealing damage.

Treat frontline and backline as one system. Great Zyra items cannot ramp if tanks disappear; durable tanks alone cannot win if backline casts too slowly.

Extend tank survival and increase the number of carry casts together. That is the basic engine.

Late, compare available units’ stars and item use rather than keeping Zyra automatically. Preserve the Juggernaut shell while choosing the remaining carries and utility flexibly.

Zyra Items: Check Mana Alongside Archangel’s

Before Stacking Several Archangel’s Staffs

Archangel’s Staff is the centerpiece here, but multiple copies do not automatically finish the build. Check whether items and Augments provide enough mana.

In the example, Zyra uses two Archangel’s but receives Adaptive Helm because mana regeneration still looks insufficient. The third slot’s job depends on the Augments even with the same scaling core.

Situation Item Decision
Archangel’s and a durable frontline ready Build around Zyra’s ramping damage
Insufficient mana generation Consider mana support such as Adaptive Helm
Augments already cover mana needs Use the remaining slot for damage or survival as needed
Alune and Lux available late Reconsider concentrating Archangel’s on one carry versus splitting them

Make Tank Items Count During Midgame

The example puts defensive items on Alistar early, then transfers the tank role when Amumu is ready. Warmog’s Armor and Gargoyle Stoneplate are used along that route.

Do not leave those items idle until the final tank appears. Equip a tank you can field now and preserve the HP needed for a later transition.

Morellonomicon and Ionic Spark: Find Reliable Effect Delivery

Give Morellonomicon to a unit that reliably applies it, rather than any spare slot. The example temporarily uses Kennen when Nidalee is judged a poor applicator for that situation.

Ionic Spark can go on frontline or supporting units independently of Zyra’s build. Evaluate how all the board’s items work together, not only the carry’s three slots.

Early Game: Play Toward Your Augment’s Timing

With Item Extraction, Prepare a Stage 3 Spike

The example opens with Item Extraction. Rather than forcing maximum Stage 2 strength, it prepares to come online with items in Stage 3.

This is not a rule to lose streak every game. The player uses a loss streak around that specific Augment and opener. Natural early strength and good items can instead justify protecting HP.

The timing of extractions matters too. Some choices are delayed until the remaining item needs are clearer. Being able to use a resource now does not mean you must consume every charge immediately.

Use the 3-2 Augment to Narrow the Plan

At 3-2, the next Augment informs the action. Even with AP items ready, examine the Augment and board together before replacing units.

The opener uses Teemo as an item holder, then moves items to LeBlanc. Until the final carry arrives, use the AP units your shops have actually upgraded.

Midgame: Finish Tanks as Well as Zyra

After reaching six Juggernauts and Zyra 2, inspect the frontline next. Amumu 2 makes it easier to give backline consistent attack time.

Amumu’s upgrade is a turning point in the example. Once frontline is ready, the player shifts toward levels and stronger late-game additions.

If you are unsure whether to keep rolling or save for XP, ask:

  • Can the main tank withstand the current opponents?

  • Is Zyra getting enough casts?

  • How many players are chasing the same units?

  • Are losses coming from stars, items, or positioning?

Scout core copy counts before rolling. Do not assume Zyra and Amumu will both upgrade quickly every game; the example itself treats that joint completion as fortunate.

Alune and Lux: A Higher Cost Is Not Enough to Justify a Swap

Should Zyra 2 Immediately Become Alune 1?

The example’s approach is to keep Zyra 2 and consider transferring items when Alune 2 is ready. Finding one Alune is a reason to prepare the next stage, not automatically sell the carry already stabilizing you.

A high-cost hit matters only if the board actually improves. Premature item transfers and carry sales can reduce strength during the transition.

Ivern and Lux Expand the Late-Game Options

After leveling, Ivern and Alune improve the board. A suitable Lux can later take Zyra’s slot. The example’s cap uses Blackthorn Lux alongside Alune.

Redistribute items too. Two Archangel’s originally sit on one carry; later, Alune and Lux receive one each. Item allocation changes when a single-carry board becomes a two-carry board.

Read the transition as a sequence:

  1. Stabilize midgame with Zyra and tanks.

  2. Once stable, level for more board space.

  3. Find late-game units such as Alune and Ivern.

  4. Check Alune’s stars and whether Lux’s form fits.

  5. When the replacement is ready, adjust items and positioning together.

Positioning: Tanks Must Catch the Threats to Backline

Against Melee Carries, Move Tanks Too

Durable frontline does not help if a melee carry bypasses it and reaches Zyra or Alune. Review where tanks intercept enemies instead of moving only the carry.

After backline takes early focus, the example emphasizes tank positioning. Later, Amumu fronts while Maokai is moved to catch Nidalee’s entry.

After changing the layout, watch who actually takes first aggro. A position that worked before may need another adjustment when the opponent moves.

How to Read the Rengar and Nidalee Matchup Claims

The gameplay commentary describes strengths into Rengar and Nidalee and shows midgame wins against incomplete high-cost boards.

Those examples do not guarantee wins into the same champion names. Exposed backline or poor tank-item allocation can change the matchup. First ask whether your carry stays alive while frontline holds.

FAQ

Are Two Archangel’s Staffs Mandatory?

Stacking them is a main option, but check mana too. The example uses Adaptive Helm when casting support is insufficient. Count actual casts rather than only completed Archangel’s.

Is This a Zyra 3 Reroll Comp?

No. The route described stabilizes with Zyra 2, then levels and transitions carries. It has a different spending goal from rolling indefinitely for Zyra 3.

Must Nidalee Stay Until the End?

No fixed slot is implied. Kennen temporarily replaces an item-application role, and later support slots change around available Alune, Ivern, and Lux upgrades.

Can Reforging an Emblem Guarantee Juggernaut?

Do not plan around that guarantee. The commentary mentions personal experience but explicitly lacks official confirmation. An anecdote is not a verified reforging rule.

Which Mistake Should I Check First?

Rushing levels before frontline is ready, or replacing a finished Zyra merely because one Alune appeared. Keep current strength while preparing a complete transition.

Practice checking Zyra’s items, main-tank 2-stars, and backline survival together. Once those are stable, levels and Alune/Lux transitions give you more late-game options.

Regional and version notes

This guide analyzes the original gameplay example rather than claiming our own match results. It does not verify a guaranteed Emblem reforging rule. Later balance changes, including 18.4 Juggernaut nerfs, can change the board’s strength. Some illustrations are retained from the Korean edition and may include Korean labels.
