Gigantamax Rillaboom returned in six-star Max Battles on August 1, 2026, with its Shiny debut and event bonuses. The three-hour event and its ticket window have ended; this guide records the announced conditions and the source's battle plan.
The source valued it as a Grass-type Max attacker and collection target. Preparation meant a suitable team and Particle budget, not a guarantee that every group could clear the boss.
Gigantamax Rillaboom Event Schedule
The event ran Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local time, including those hours at North American play locations.
- Event: August 1, 2:00–5:00 p.m. local time
- Featured Pokémon: Gigantamax Rillaboom
- Difficulty: six-star Max Battles
- Collection goals: a Shiny or a useful individual, without guaranteed results
- Announced locations: Power Spots during the event
The announcement put Gigantamax Battles at all Power Spots, with additional active spots and faster refreshes during the event. Use the actual map and accessible locations rather than assuming a permanent Power Spot remains unchanged.
Event Bonuses

The following were active during the 2:00–5:00 p.m. event window:
- Max Particle collection limit increased to 1,600
- Gigantamax Battles at all Power Spots
- More frequent Power Spot refreshes
- Additional active Power Spots
- 8× Max Particles from Power Spots
- Up to three Special Trades for the day
The separate exploration bonuses ran August 1 from midnight to 5:00 p.m. local time:
- 2× Max Particles from exploring
- One-quarter Adventuring distance to receive Max Particles
The announcement required collecting all already-available Particles in Nearby for the relevant exploration bonuses to apply. Check Nearby and your actual balance before starting.
The fixed Remote Raid cap window was July 31, 5:00 p.m.–August 1, 8:00 p.m. PDT (July 31, 8:00 p.m.–August 1, 11:00 p.m. EDT), raising the daily cap from 10 to 20. Remote Max Battle access has separate entry costs: an eligible Remote Raid Pass plus the usual Max Particles. The higher cap did not supply either resource for free.
Shiny Gigantamax Rillaboom Debut

This event introduced the possibility of Shiny Gigantamax Rillaboom. The announcement did not specify an exact Shiny probability.
An ordinary Rillaboom does not become Gigantamax simply through evolution or a routine form change. The source's route was a successful Gigantamax Rillaboom Max Battle followed by a catch; an eligible trade is a separate way to obtain an already-caught individual.
The up-to-three Special Trades bonus could support plans such as:
- Trading eligible duplicate Gigantamax catches
- Trading an eligible Shiny Gigantamax catch
- Using an existing Lucky Friend trade for a chosen candidate
- Keeping separate attack and support candidates
An ordinary Special Trade does not guarantee a Lucky or perfect result. A Lucky Friend trade guarantees Lucky status for the applicable trade, not 100% IVs.
Why the Source Wanted a Grass Max Attacker
The source records Rillaboom's base stats as 239 Attack, 168 Defense, and 225 Stamina. Its dedicated Grass G-Max attack was the main reason for considering it for an offensive Max role; those figures are not a new measured ranking here.
Grass attacks can exploit suitable Water, Ground, or Rock weaknesses. Whether you needed Rillaboom in addition to an existing Gigantamax Venusaur depended on the actual team role and resources.
The article distinguished two uses:
Using It in Max Battles
The G-Max attack, Max Move levels, Pokémon level, and survival are central here. Frenzy Plant is a separate ordinary Charged Attack and is not required to change the dedicated G-Max attack into Grass damage.
The source's suggested investment sequence was:
- Bring the Pokémon to a useful level.
- Improve its dedicated G-Max attack.
- Unlock Max Guard or Max Spirit for the intended support role.
- Add further upgrades as Candy and Particles allow.
Good Attack IVs are desirable for an attacking role, but waiting indefinitely for a hundo can delay a usable team. Match upgrades to the group's needs.
Using the Same Individual in Ordinary Raids
For an ordinary Grass raid role, Frenzy Plant was the special move the source highlighted.
A caught Rillaboom is already fully evolved, so it cannot receive an evolution-only Frenzy Plant bonus by evolving again. Check any explicitly announced direct acquisition or Elite Charged TM option before spending.
A Max-only project does not require teaching Frenzy Plant just to use its Grass G-Max attack.
What the Paid Ticket Included
The event ticket was US$4.99 or the equivalent local pricing tier. It granted event-exclusive Timed Research during the specified window; it is not currently on offer through this recap.
The research rewards included:
- One Max Mushroom
- 25,000 XP
- 6,400 Max Particles
- A separate ticket bonus: 2× XP from Max Battles
The 25,000 XP was a research reward, not a promise of 25,000 base XP per Max Battle. The doubled battle XP was a separate bonus.
An active Lucky Egg doubles applicable XP. Timing planned battles and the research claim within its duration could improve that item's use, without changing the underlying reward categories.
The ticket's in-game purchase cutoff was August 1, 5:00 p.m. local time, and it could not be purchased with PokéCoins. The Web Store Ultra Ticket Box also included a Premium Battle Pass.
Max Mushrooms: Use and Limits

A Max Mushroom boosts damage from your own Pokémon in Max Battles. Its standard duration is 30 minutes; using more extends time rather than multiplying the boost repeatedly.
It is not a lobby-wide buff for every participant. Each Trainer chooses whether to use their own item.
Possible reasons to consider one included:
- A coordinated smaller group needing additional damage
- Several planned battles at nearby accessible Power Spots
- A time-limited session where more damage may help the group's clear pace
- A first attempt showing a specific damage shortfall
If the group already wins comfortably, check the need before using an item. A Mushroom cannot replace appropriate eligibility, moves, or enough support.
Weaknesses and Counter Roles
Rillaboom is pure Grass, making these attack types super effective:
- Fire
- Flying
- Bug
- Ice
- Poison
Max Battles require eligible individuals: usually Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon, plus specifically supported exceptions such as Crowned forms. An ordinary raid attacker does not qualify merely because its species is a good counter.
Attackers to Compare
The source's Fire/Flying shortlist included the following examples. Availability must match the actual event date; later debuts are not retroactive August counters.
- Gigantamax Charizard
- Gigantamax Cinderace, if already available in the relevant context
- Dynamax Charizard
- Dynamax Cinderace
- Eligible Dynamax Pokémon with a Flying-type Max Attack
Charizard's typing can help against Grass attacks while dealing super-effective Fire damage. Cinderace takes a different set of incoming matchups, so check the actual boss moves and support it appropriately.
Coordinating a Max Battle
For a six-star battle, a team with defined roles can be more reliable than filling every slot with unsupported attackers.
- Attack: use the appropriate super-effective Max or G-Max attack.
- Defense: use Max Guard to shield your active Pokémon.
- Healing: use Max Spirit to restore your subgroup's HP.
- Build-up phase: use an appropriate durable Pokémon while filling the Max Meter.
Swipe to collect available energy icons and watch targeted-attack prompts. If all your Pokémon faint, cheering can still help surviving teammates build their Max Meter; it is not an ordinary raid-style relobby.
The Original Preparation Checklist
Before the three-hour window, the source recommended:
- Plan your Max Particle balance.
- Collect already-available Nearby Particles in the required order.
- Prepare eligible Fire or Flying attackers.
- Prepare appropriate Max Guard and Max Spirit support.
- Bring Potions and Revives for use between attempts.
- Clear Pokémon Storage.
- Budget Lucky Eggs or Max Mushrooms only where useful.
- Check the community's meeting location.
- Agree on intended Special Trades and eligible Pokémon.
A dense map alone did not guarantee a successful group. Accessible Power Spots, short routes, and a coordinated community mattered more than declaring one location an automatically lucky hotspot.
Regional and version notes
English localization reviewed October 23, 2026. Global schedules marked local time follow your play location, including North America. Ended event, ticket, and reward windows are historical. Counter choices, upgrade order, and efficiency suggestions are editorial guidance, not guaranteed wins, catches, or a current measured performance ranking. August 1’s local 2–5 p.m. event differs from the fixed PDT Remote Raid-cap interval. Remote Max entry requires its own pass and Particle costs. The 25,000 XP was a research reward; doubled battle XP was separate. Rillaboom stats and tactical comparisons are retained source details, not independently measured live performance.
