KMS events · Ended · About these guides
The 2026 KMS summer season paired Challenger World Season 4 with the Ultima Squad auto-battle minigame. Both events have ended; this guide records their progression systems rather than an active event schedule.
Challenger progression linked levels, Genesis liberation, and Item Burning PLUS. Ultima Squad required a separate plan for offline growth and online equipment farming.
Season 4 progression goals
Season 4 asked players to meet level and boss-clear milestones within a limited operating period. Seasonal missions ended September 16, world training ended before September 17 maintenance, and final World Leap ended September 30, 2026, all KST.
Points raised the tier, with a Meirin solo-clear requirement for the higher tiers.
- Master: at least 70,000 points and a Normal Meirin solo clear
- Challenger/Super Challenger: at least 90,000 points and a Hard Meirin solo clear
- Super Challenger: also within the world's designated top ranking
- Challenger: eligible Hard Meirin clearers outside the Super Challenger ranking
Normal Meirin was an intermediate milestone; Hard Meirin was the higher-tier goal. Levels, temporary equipment, HEXA skills, and symbols all contributed to reaching it.
Planning around the Genesis Pass
The optional paid KMS Genesis Pass increased eligible Traces of Darkness and offered support for qualifying liberation-quest parties. Its rules should not be assumed to apply to a different regional service.
A liberated Genesis weapon could change the equipment plan substantially. Estimate the liberation timeline before spending heavily on a weapon you expect to replace.
Before committing, check:
- Current Traces of Darkness
- Boss difficulties the character can clear each week
- The pass's applicable period
- Liberation quest progress
- The intended Meirin attempt date
A pass did not make every character finish in the same time. Clear capability and starting progress still determined the schedule.
Item Burning PLUS progression

The event issued a class-appropriate temporary Challenger weapon and seven armor pieces: hat, top, bottom, gloves, shoes, cape, and shoulder.
Completing stage 11 raised the armor to 22 stars. Buying comparable Arcane Umbra armor too early could duplicate spending while the temporary set remained useful.
Selected Item Burning PLUS milestones
| Stage | Required level | Solo-boss mission | Selected upgrade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | 225 | Normal Lotus | 18-star armor and Unique armor Potential |
| Stage 3 | 255 | Easy Will | Legendary weapon Potential |
| Stage 4 | 260 | Normal Kai | Legendary hat Potential |
| Stage 7 | 270 | Hard Damien | 20-star gloves, shoes, and cape |
| Stage 9 | 275 | Chaos Guardian Angel Slime | 21-star gloves, shoes, and cape |
| Stage 10 | 275 | Chaos Gloom | 21-star hat, top, bottom, and shoulder |
| Stage 11 | 280 | Normal Meirin | 22-star armor |
Full-phase practice clears could count for these missions, and later boss requirements could be recorded ahead of time. The listed levels and bosses were only part of the requirement: stages 3–11 also required increasing Challenge Emblem holdings, reaching 6,500 at stage 11. Earlier stages still had to be completed to claim later upgrades.
Separating temporary gear from permanent upgrades
The temporary set served the season; permanent equipment needed to remain useful after World Leap and the set's November 18, 2026 expiry.
If Challenger armor already covered a slot, compare the actual gain before buying similar Arcane Umbra gear. Accessories, secondary, emblem, symbols, and HEXA could address a real shortfall more efficiently.
A practical review order
- Useful weapon, secondary, and emblem potentials
- Arcane and Sacred Symbol levels
- HEXA skills and HEXA Stats
- Accessory set effects and Star Force
- Critical Rate and effective IED
- Additional investment based on actual Meirin practice results
The Memento 18-star armor scroll labeled level 200 applied to eligible untradable armor at or below that level, not level-250 Eternal pieces. Check the full item tooltip and Memento restrictions before applying it to a long-term replacement.
Preparing for Normal and Hard Meirin
Meirin is the name used here for the KMS seasonal boss. English pattern labels below are descriptive rather than a claim about a released GMS localization.
Normal was required for Master and Item Burning PLUS stage 11; Hard was required for Challenger and Super Challenger. Eligible full-phase practice solo clears could count toward the seasonal missions, distinct from first-clear race rewards.
Practice priorities
- Identify safe positions for lethal attacks and follow-ups
- Track major cooldowns before a phase transition
- Use a valid bind window for concentrated damage
- Reserve movement and invincibility for the patterns that need them
- Prioritize survival if lives run out before the timer
- Reach the final phase before diagnosing a damage shortfall
Meirin rewarded surviving while preserving attack uptime. Losing lives to greedy attacks could defeat a character with otherwise sufficient damage.
This also applied to recurring skills such as Evan's Elemental Radiance, Hoyoung's Sage: Wrath of Gods, and Angelic Buster's Superstar Spotlight. Their availability did not guarantee the boss would remain targetable for their full duration.
Why the source suggested level 285

Hard Meirin allowed entry at 280, but level-difference damage modifiers made further levels useful. Level 285 was a preparation suggestion, not a guaranteed clear threshold.
Levels above 280 required more time, but could supply points and reduce the boss level gap in addition to other growth benefits.
Before making an expensive purchase for a small damage shortfall, the source checked:
- EXP needed for the next level
- Any Sacred Power shortfall
- The next Challenger equipment stage
- Affordable HEXA upgrades
- Growth materials still available from the event shops
An imminent level or equipment-stage upgrade could be worth waiting for instead of immediately spending billions of mesos.
How Ultima Squad worked
Ultima Squad ran July 23 through August 19, 2026 in KMS. Warrior, Archer, and Mage mercenaries auto-battled for minigame EXP, gold, equipment, and training cubes; those resources belonged to the minigame.
Offline rewards supplied EXP and gold only. Equipment, training cubes, and Chaos Squad Coins required being logged into MapleStory, even when the minigame window was closed.
Setting up offline rewards
Offline calculation used the last cleared regular stage. Ending on an uncleared or boss stage used the preceding cleared stage instead.
Before logging out, the source recommended clearing the highest reliable regular stage. The base offline cap was 16 hours, expandable through utilities to 24 hours.
Mercenaries and skill slots
The Warrior was available first. Clearing 1-6 unlocked the Archer purchase; after recruiting the Archer, clearing 2-6 unlocked the Mage purchase with gold.
The second and third skill slots could be purchased after clearing stages 1-10 and 2-10 respectively.
Examples of mercenary skills
| Mercenary | Skill examples |
|---|---|
| Warrior | Aura Blade, Iron Body, Hammers of the Righteous, Cleave, Invincible Belief, and Demon Bane |
| Archer | Charged Arrow, Hurricane, Vortex Sphere, Soul Contract, Spirit of Elluel, and Dragon Burst |
| Mage | Chain Lightning, Heal, Heaven's Door, Flame Sweep, Benediction, and Radiance |
Skills activated automatically after cooldown. When several were ready, earlier slots took priority, so slot order affected when a key attack or defensive skill activated.
Online equipment farming
Mercenary equipment covered weapon, hat, gloves, and shoes, across eight tiers. Higher stages could drop higher tiers, but drops were probabilistic.
For online farming, compare clear speed and survival rather than automatically choosing the highest unlocked stage.
- For EXP and gold, use a reliably repeatable stage
- For equipment, compare eligible tiers and kills per hour
- If a boss repeatedly wipes the squad, develop on a preceding regular stage
- Merge or dismantle equipment before the inventory fills
- Compare base stats and potentials even within the same tier
The initial 10 equipment slots could expand to 256 with gold. A full inventory stopped further equipment acquisition, so longer online sessions needed free space.
The source's overall seasonal route
The historical progression order was:
- Develop the temporary Challenger set through Item Burning PLUS
- Complete weekly and seasonal point missions
- Build Arcane/Sacred Symbols and HEXA skills
- Estimate liberation timing and decide whether a pass was worthwhile
- Practice and solo Normal Meirin
- Progress through levels 280–285
- Learn Hard Meirin's patterns
- Buy only upgrades addressing a demonstrated shortfall
- Confirm the eligible Challenger or Super Challenger tier
- Check reward expiry and World Leap restrictions before leaving
The useful lesson is to coordinate systems with different deadlines rather than buy every upgrade immediately. Season 4, Ultima Squad, and their claim periods are over; future seasons require their own rules and schedule.
