KMS Personal Burning: Can You Reach Stage 30 Without Momentum Pass?

URITRIP·September 24, 2026

KMS-only event: This event is available only in Korean MapleStory. The dates and rewards below do not apply to GMS.

If you are playing the Korean Personal Burning event, you may wonder whether reaching stage 30 requires buying Momentum Pass.

Under the right conditions, stage 30 can be a goal without the paid pass. Your starting level, reliable boss clears, and remaining participation time determine whether your own plan works. This is a KMS event analysis; the dates and purchase conditions are not a GMS schedule.

Compare the EXP your character needs with what you can actually earn, rather than assuming someone else's completion route will work for you.

Why stage 30 means different things for different characters

Personal Burning sets its original 30 growth missions using your character's level and EXP when first joining the event. Completing each stage automatically awards EXP. KMS's later October extension adds stages beyond 30; this guide focuses on the original stage-30 goal.

The Korean event runs until November 18, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. KST, with Personal Boss Missions opening from September 24, 2026 at midnight KST. These times are Korean event deadlines, not North American local times.

Different starting points require different growth amounts. Check your own stage targets in the event window instead of comparing only current character levels.

Estimate whether you need the pass

Estimating Personal Burning stage 30 EXP without Momentum Pass

Split the EXP estimate into three parts:

Category What to record Avoid this mistake
Remaining target Growth still required to reach stage 30 Including stages you have already completed
Repeatable EXP EXP you can realistically earn each day and week Counting opportunities that have already passed
One-time EXP Unclaimed rewards and unused items Counting rewards you have already used

Also include future growth-mission stage rewards. Assuming you must grind the entire remaining difference overstates the amount of additional training needed.

Use this planning equation:

Extra EXP still needed
= EXP to the target − future stage rewards − expected repeatable EXP − expected one-time EXP

Stage rewards arrive only after you complete their requirements. Check the route step by step: can you first earn enough EXP to reach the next stage? A final total that balances on paper is not enough if the next reward is still out of reach.

Do not add EXP percentages across different levels as though they were equal amounts. Use raw EXP where possible, and account for rewards whose value depends on the level at which you claim them.

Weekly bosses: difficulty and party size matter

Personal Boss Missions award EXP for qualifying boss kills. The boss name alone is not enough to calculate the reward.

Include the difficulty and the number of qualifying party members sharing the EXP. Those details can change the amount you receive.

The Korean notice divides party EXP among members who meet the requirements. A member contributing less than 5% of the total damage cannot complete the mission. EXP is awarded when the reward monster is defeated. These are the KMS event's rules, not a statement of every GMS boss-reward system.

Base the plan on bosses you can clear reliably each week, rather than treating an uncleared personal-best target as guaranteed income.

Keep repeatable rewards separate from one-time rewards

A common error is counting a one-time reward every week or including something that has already been used.

A simple tracker helps prevent double-counting:

Check Your character's record
Current level and EXP Enter your value
Current Personal Burning stage Enter your value
EXP actually gained this week Enter your value
Reliable boss clears and qualifying party size Enter your value
Unused EXP rewards Enter your value
Remaining participation opportunities before the deadline Enter your value

The first estimate does not need to be perfect. Play your usual routine for a week and record the actual growth, then use it to build a realistic remaining plan.

Subtract any one-time rewards consumed that week before treating the result as repeatable weekly EXP.

Three questions before buying Momentum Pass

Estimate the shortfall before deciding whether a paid pass helps your goal.

First: does your normal play already reach the target?
If the expected EXP is enough, stage 30 alone gives you less reason to buy the pass.

Second: can you cover the gap with extra play?
Divide the missing EXP by the remaining days you can actually play to estimate the extra daily amount.

Third: does the plan leave any room for missed sessions?
A calculation requiring every weekly activity can fail after one interruption. Allow for days when you will not log in.

Frequently asked questions

Does not needing the pass mean I do not need to grind?

No. Avoiding a paid pass and avoiding training are different conditions. Estimate what your normal activities provide, then decide whether the remaining gap requires extra farming.

Can I reach stage 30 if I start now?

Count only opportunities that remain. Do not borrow the cumulative EXP of someone who played from the first day and apply it to a late start.

Before deciding, write down your current stage, remaining EXP target, and reliable weekly EXP. Once you can see your own shortfall, you can judge whether extra play, a paid pass, or a smaller goal makes sense.

Regional and version notes

English localization reviewed October 23, 2026. Korean MapleStory (KMS) and Global MapleStory (GMS) have different schedules, class rosters, economies, and feature versions. Korean event times use KST (UTC+9), not North American local time. Use the GMS announcement and your current in-game tooltips for GMS participation and skill values. The original 30-stage goal is preserved; KMS later extended the event to 45 stages. Extra-stage EXP does not retroactively change the initial goal analysis. Mission rewards are conditional on reaching each stage, and party boss EXP uses the Korean event’s qualifying-member rules. No particular character’s completion or purchase is guaranteed. Some illustrations are retained from the Korean edition and may include Korean labels. Use the English article text for instructions.
