KMS skill changes: The changes discussed below describe Korean MapleStory. They are not a GMS release announcement; check the version currently live on your server.
Starting Night Lord? Check the current skill behavior before copying an older build. Changes to movement during attacks and throwing-star targeting can affect both boss inputs and farming routes. The changes discussed here come from KMS; GMS players should confirm which are live in their own version.
Choose a goal first. Leveling and farming can expose different bottlenecks from weekly bossing, so your node and stat investments should reflect the content you want to improve.
What is Night Lord?
Night Lord is an Explorer thief that uses a claw and throwing stars. Its main stat is LUK, and its attacks combine throwing stars with marks and follow-up hits.
Start with the right weapon and stats for the class. An item is useful when it solves a current weakness, not simply because another player uses it. Aim for reliable performance in your present maps and bosses before planning every endgame slot.
The Korean Night Lord changes to review first

Movement during attacks
The Korean skill adjustment allows forward Flash Jump and Shadow Blink during other skills, except hold-key channels. It also removes the casting animations for Shadow Leap and Shadow Blink. These names identify the movement entries in the Korean notes; check the matching skills in your current client.
Practice when the movement input is accepted during an attack and where it places you. More flexible movement only helps survival if the destination itself is safe.
Mark targeting and farming routes
The mark skills are changed to track the enemy that generated the star. Throwing Star Barrage and Quad Star VI attack all enemies in their search range and apply Assassin's Mark to enemies hit. The shuriken attacks from the Showdown skills no longer trigger marks under this KMS adjustment.
Compare your main farming attacks directly on the same map. Record where monsters survive, how long a rotation takes, and how many extra movements you need. That is more useful than assuming an old route remains optimal.
How to judge Night Lord's strengths and tradeoffs
First ask whether you enjoy its throwing-star theme and combat inputs. Visuals and feel matter for a character you intend to play for a long time.
Evaluate farming and bossing separately. For farming, compare kills over a fixed duration and input fatigue. For bosses, compare damage uptime and survival. A short burst clip cannot describe the whole class experience.
Likewise, input flexibility and defensive strength are different things. Improved movement does not automatically make every mechanic safe. When learning a boss, practice leaving danger before trying to maximize every attack window.
Choose node upgrades around the current goal

Before spending resources, identify the attacks you actually use. Separate frequently repeated farming skills from the attacks contributing most in bosses.
For farming, an upgrade may be useful if it reduces the hits needed to kill. If you already kill comfortably, a better route may improve the experience more than another skill level.
For bossing, inspect both damage contribution and cast count. A low share may mean insufficient upgrades, missed opportunities, or both. Raising a skill you rarely land may not produce the improvement you expect.
Check the target skill and current level before investing, and state what problem the next upgrade is meant to solve.
Legion, Link Skills, and Hyper Stats: fill actual gaps
Use your own stat window to adjust Legion, Link Skills, and Hyper Stats instead of copying another character's list unchanged.
Check Critical Rate, Ignore Enemy Defense for your target boss, and whether more farming damage would reduce hits to kill. Gear and buff changes can alter which stat is missing.
Keep farming and bossing presets focused on different goals. Compare EXP and kill efficiency for farming, and actual fight results for bosses. Change one variable at a time under similar conditions so you can tell what helped.
Inner Ability and sixth-job upgrade priorities

Set an Inner Ability goal and a resource limit
Check what your current lines contribute before rerolling. Decide whether farming or bossing is the priority, and limit the resources you will spend on a change.
Keeping a usable set while planning the next upgrade is often more manageable than trying to finish every ideal line immediately. Use the reroll items and rules available in your region.
Compare sixth-job cost with the expected improvement
HEXA upgrade priorities depend on your current levels and target content. Compare the resources for the next level with the problem that upgrade addresses.
For uncomfortable farming, look at kill efficiency. For a boss timeout, look at practical damage contribution. When borrowing another player's order, compare their node levels and equipment with yours first.
Night Lord FAQ
Can I follow an old Night Lord guide unchanged?
It can explain the class basics, but movement and mark triggers need checking against current tooltips. Test older farming routes rather than assuming they still perform the same way, especially across KMS and GMS versions.
Should I buy gear first if farming feels slow?
Check skill choice and map routing first. Needing too many hits to kill and spending too long moving around the map are different problems.
Does low boss damage always mean weak nodes?
Check uptime too. Returning late after a dodge or missing key casts can be improved through practice, alongside any equipment or node upgrades you actually need.
Learn the current skill behavior, separate farming and bossing goals, and invest in the bottleneck you can identify. One change at a time makes Night Lord's progression easier to evaluate.
Regional and version notes
English localization reviewed October 23, 2026. Korean MapleStory (KMS) and Global MapleStory (GMS) have different schedules, class rosters, economies, and feature versions. Korean event times use KST (UTC+9), not North American local time. Use the GMS announcement and your current in-game tooltips for GMS participation and skill values. Skill changes are drawn from KMS, and do not establish the live GMS version. Node, Inner Ability, Legion, Link Skill, and Hyper Stat priorities depend on the character’s actual farming and bossing needs rather than a universal finished build. Some illustrations are retained from the Korean edition and may include Korean labels. Use the English article text for instructions.
