KMS Kain Burst Guide: Possess, Execute, and Current Skill Names

KUKJIN LEE·July 9, 2026

KMS build · About these guides

Kain rewards reliable marks, Execute hits, and positioning through a burst window. Shadow Step and the Death's Blessing interactions need practice, but the source's older timing and names also need checking against the current patch.

The class alternates ranged attacks with close-range Executes rather than relying on one uninterrupted bow attack. This guide uses the Korean build as its reference and English skill names for readability.

The basic loop: Possess and Execute

Manage Malice, apply Death's Blessing marks through the relevant attacks, then consume them with eligible Executes.

  • Possess: Spend Malice to empower applicable attacks. Possess attacks can apply Death's Blessing according to their skill conditions.

  • Execute: Eligible Execute hits consume marks for additional damage. The basic relationship is Possess for marks, then Execute to materialize them; not every purple animation or every hit has identical conditions.

  • Movement: Shadow Step Use Shadow Step to reposition in any direction and link movement with permitted attacks. Some Execute interactions can reset it under the relevant skill rules, but do not assume every mark consumption universally reduces its cooldown. Check the current tooltip and availability before relying on a second dash.

Planning damage after sixth job

Kain Possess and Execute mark cycle with English skill names

The source emphasizes damage near the later part of its burst. The current KMS Origin is named Annihilation in official notices; the English reference uses Total Annihilation. The source's “The Antinomy” name should not be used as the current Origin name. Later KMS changes also shifted damage toward the initial wave, so late-only buff timing is not a universal rule.

A burst framework, not a fixed script

The source models a roughly 30-second sequence and a later Restraint Ring window. Ring level, skill version, boss availability, and the October KMS Origin changes can alter that choice; compare your actual damage timeline before committing the ring.

  1. Prepare the kit: Set up applicable links, Incarnation, and shared buffs. Have the ring ready, but activate it at the chosen damage window rather than treating preparation and activation as the same step.

  2. Use the correctly identified Origin: Use Total Annihilation at a suitable point with the necessary buffs already active. Current KMS notices distinguish Origin Annihilation from fifth-job Thanatos Descent; do not copy the source's naming correction as though “The Antinomy” were official.

  3. Use the main channel: Fit [Possess] Dragon Burst into the controlled window.

  4. Follow with the Execute channel: Use [Execute] Fatal Blitz and other applicable attacks. [Execute] Poison Needle and [Possess] Falling Dust belong to different categories: Falling Dust is not an Execute. Keep marks and actual hit opportunities in view when linking them.

  5. Ring window and follow-up: Align Restraint Ring with the strongest actual overlap, including the appropriate Thanatos Descent follow-up and current Origin distribution. Continue the Possess/Execute cycle rather than waiting idle for a presumed mandatory finisher.

What to review in practice: Track consumed marks, missed Execute hits, and whether the major skills connected during buffs. One skill-share ranking from the source does not establish every Kain's current damage distribution.

Inner Ability and equipment choices

Useful lines and cooldown gear should fit the current character rather than being treated as an identical mandatory setup for everyone.

Inner Ability priorities

  • First line: Boss Damage is the source's baseline recommendation, subject to a current class-specific comparison.

  • Other lines: Consider useful Critical Rate and damage to enemies affected by abnormal status. The source's “shop cooldown reduction” line is not a real Inner Ability option and should not be pursued.

  • Boss Damage/Critical Rate/status damage can be a practical example. Excess Critical Rate can also have value through Vicious Shot where applicable; check actual stats rather than assuming either a shortage or a universal perfect set.

Cooldown-reduction hats

  • Two to four seconds: The source favors this range for attack cycling, but its value depends on the current affected skills, reduction floors, sacrificed stat lines, and rotation. Compare actual candidate hats rather than assuming every second gives the same gain.

  • Five seconds or more: An expensive specialist option in the source, not a requirement. Test whether the extra reduction produces usable casts or utility in the intended fight, and whether the added input load suits you.

Kain burst timing, cooldown equipment, and corrected Origin name

  • Q: Should I use Chasing Shot in bosses?

    • Answer: Its value depends on the current version and opportunity cost. The English reference describes a tracking attack, not a blanket direct source of Death's Blessing marks. Do not count marks or Malice it does not actually generate; prioritize the verified Possess/Execute loop.

  • Q: Which special V core should I use?

    • Answer: The source mentions Fatal Strike as a periodic-damage example. Match any special core to its current trigger and cooldown, and distinguish special cores from ordinary shared fifth-job skills. Mu Lung Dojo, event punch activities, and Sharenian Culvert are different modes, not interchangeable names.

  • Q: Must I keep refreshing a global Final Damage buff through marks?

    • Answer: Consume marks and use Executes for their actual effects. The basic reference's merit buff benefits Death's Blessing/Execute skills, not every attack indiscriminately; later HEXA behavior and KMS duration changes also differ. September KMS removed HEXA Death's Blessing's maximum-maintenance-time restriction, so the source's old blanket refresh rule is incomplete.

  • Q: Which Executes fill the gaps?

    • Answer: Use appropriate stronger Executes when available, then Phantom Blade or Tearing Knife as needed. Poison Needle is an Execute; Falling Dust is a normal/Possess attack and should not be listed as an Execute filler. Adjust to range, marks, cooldowns, and current skill rules.
