Tier 4 Upgrade Planning: Gems, Stones, Honing, and Bonus Rewards

KUKJIN LEE·April 28, 2026

Korean Tier 4 upgrade framework · About these guides

This Korean progression article was written during a period of perceived price and recruitment pressure. It provides no market dataset establishing today’s North American conditions. Its useful theme is to compare each upgrade against a goal, rather than spending to follow an assumed universal checklist.

Plan Skill Gems Over Time

Tier 4 damage and cooldown gems serve different purposes. Check skill coverage and useful cooldown breakpoints before replacing an entire set merely to match a party listing.

  • Long-term goal: improve the gems used by your actual build as resources allow.
  • Available resources: use eligible bound or event rewards, while checking their upgrade, fusion, and transfer restrictions.
  • Main and alts: different goals can justify different investment levels. Every character does not need an identical gem budget.

Ability Stones and the 9/7 Assumption

A 9/7 stone is an optional optimization, rather than a reward every veteran should already possess or an official requirement for all endgame content. Faceting remains random; past attempts do not guarantee eventual success on a fixed budget. Compare the actual Tier 4 engraving effects and keep a spending limit.

Respond to Actual Prices

The source calls prices 20–30% inflated without a reproducible reference period. That is not a verified current premium or proof prices must fall. Compare recent regional listings, your available stock, and the benefit of upgrading now. Waiting also has a cost if it delays content you want to play.

Review the Progression Bands

Tier 4 Entry Through 1660: Establish a Working Build

  • Passive points: inspect Ark Passive unlocks and allocations. Ark Grid cores are a separate system and do not replace every passive prerequisite.
  • Honing: compare ordinary and Advanced Honing costs. Metallurgy and Tailoring items only help their eligible honing system and range; ordinary honing books should not be assumed to discount Advanced Honing.
  • Gems: the source targets all Level 8 damage/cooldown gems. Treat that as an aspiration, rather than an entry requirement or the best first purchase for every build.

1660–1680 and Beyond: Compare the Next Useful Step

  • Passives: prioritize meaningful node thresholds while considering the points actually available.
  • Engravings: the source suggests buying 40 cheaper Relic books. Check usable recipes and intermediate bonuses; cheap books can still be poor value for your build.
  • Main damage skills: consider a Level 9 gem only after comparing its marginal benefit with other upgrades. It is not an automatic next step at a fixed item level.

Later Endgame Investment

  • Grudge, Adrenaline, and Keen Blunt Weapon recipes can be costly. Buy effects your setup uses, and account for selection rewards before committing gold.
  • The source’s armor +19–21 and weapon +21–25 targets are examples. Their meaning depends on the gear generation and goal; they are not universal completion requirements.
  • Accessory investment: compare usable effects and current enhancement or refinement rules. Higher rarity or spending alone does not guarantee the best marginal gain.

Evaluate Each Bonus Reward

Buying every gate’s bonus chest can consume gold that would solve a more immediate problem.

  • For Kazeros raids, value the actual materials you need, the gate’s cost, and how soon a bonus completes an upgrade. Act 1 or Act 2 should not be called the latest content indefinitely, and no bonus is compulsory simply because the raid is newer.
  • For older content such as Ivory Tower Hard, inspect the current chest contents and cost. Reduced clear gold alone does not prove its bonus is always inefficient.

Choose a target, compare complete upgrade costs, and keep a reserve for play. No market prediction or community preference makes aggressive spending the right choice for every roster.
